Periodontal Treatment for Gum Disease

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, left untreated can lead to tooth loss. Gum disease has also been linked to other health problems, including heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, some cancers and diabetes. That is why at Marian C. Pilecki, DDS, we believe in the importance of identifying and treating gum disease in its earliest stages. In addition to helping you develop a regular home care routine, we will plan regular hygiene appointments. Depending on the progression of the gum disease, we can also use the soft-tissue laser to kill bacteria in periodontal pockets. This treatment is minimally invasive and offers quicker healing times.

Symptoms of gum disease:

  • Gums that bleed easily
  • Red, swollen, tender gums
  • Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
  • Persistent bad breath or bad taste
  • Permanent teeth that are loose or separating
  • Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
  • Any change in the fit of partial dentures

It is possible to have periodontal disease and have no symptoms. That is why regular dental checkups and periodontal examinations are very important to maintaining your oral health and overall health.
